Recipients of irrigation water from the Bureau of Reclamation (BuRec) face a future of water conservation. By formally modeling surface water as a fixed, allocatable input to a multioutput firm, this research captures the institutional constraints governing water allocation and , simultaneously, establishes a cohesive approach to analyzing the production effects of BuRec allocation policy. Econometric results show that BuRec-served irrigators' crop supply and land allocation decisions are generally inelastic with respect to the water constraint. Using the elasticities, a policy simulation of a 10% reduction in BuRec water allocation indicates that production response to reduced water supply would affect the national price of three of ten major crops... |

Several times a small, unknown species of Coprinus has been found on paths covered with wood-chips and on composted vegetable refuse. The basidiocarps of this species look like miniature fruit-bodies of C. lagopus. As in literature no suitable name could be found, it is described here as new. I consider it an honour to name the species after Dr. R. A. Maas Geesteranus on the occasion of his 80th birthday. |

STOCK, J. H. 1992. A new species of Hemicyclops (Crustacea, Copepoda, Poecilostomatoida, Clausidiidae) associated with hermit crabs in Curaçao. Stud. Nat. Hist. Caribbean Region 71, Amsterdam 1992: 69-78. Hemicyclops geminatus n. sp. is described from the upper infralittoral zone of Curaçao (Antilles). It is a regular associate of three species of hermit crabs: Calcinus tibicen, Paguristes grayi, and Dardanus venosus. The new taxon appears to be a twin species of Hemicyclops columnaris HUMES, 1984, an associate of a stony coral off the Pacific coast of Panamá. |

Nests of the "Scaly-headed parrot" and "Illiger's macaw" - Pionus maximiliani (Kuhl, 1820) and Ara maracana (Vieillot, 1816) - found at the Ecological Station in Gália, São Paulo with clutches in 26-VII-90 and 20-IX-90, both containing four white rounded and at one end slightly pointed eggs, measuring 33.4x30.0mm and 33.0x28.0mm each respectively, are being reported on. The incubation in the "Scaly-headed parrot" lasted for 26 days, the stay of the young in the nest cavity for about 50 days and only one adult was seen incubating, while in "Illiger's or Blue-winged macaw" both parents used to stay in the nest. |

This paper extends the Stahl-Rubinstein model of bilateral bargaining to incorporate many players and multidimensional issue spaces. A central feature of our framework is that in each round of negotiations, a proposer is selected randomly. Our bargaining model consists of a sequence of finite-horizon games, in which the horizon increases without bound. A solution to our model is a limit of equilibrium outcomes for the finite horizon games. A necessary condition for existence of a deterministic solution is that the limit outcome belongs to the core of the underlying bargaining problem. Solutions, if they exist, are generically unique. Two sets of sufficiency conditions for existence are presented. The paper concludes with examples and applications. In... |

For tomatoes, potatoes, carrots and onions in the Sydney market, the degree of variability of the retail price is substantially lower than the degree of variability of the wholesale price. The objective here is to investigate whether fresh vegetable retailers in the Sydney market practice price levelling and price averaging. 2SLS and 3SLS procedures were used to estimate a system of price spread equations for the four vegetables using quarterly data from 1980 to 1990. In the preferred 3SLS estimates price levelling was confirmed for potatoes and carrots. Price levelling was not evident in the tomatoes and onions equations, with price transmission influenced more by markup pricing policies for these vegetables. No evidence of price-averaging behaviour was... |

This brief is divided into four parts. Part one provides a basic description of the agricultural production process as a dynamic flow, producing not only commodities but environmental goods and "bads"(damages). Part two discusses the research agendas that have influenced this production process, and the conflicts between traditional commodity oriented research and the newer environmental research agenda. Part three takes up the common ground uniting these two agendas: a concern for the uses of land and the effects of this use on both commodity and environmental flows. Part four offers some specific recommendations for reforms in land policy and targeting at the national level, the farm level, and the implications of these reforms for agricultural... |

An empirical model has been derived for the semidiurnal principal lunar tide M2 in the Mediterranean Sea, excluding the Aegean Sea. The work is primarily an exercise in combining satellite altimeter data with tide-gauge data, through the use of specially constructed spatial basis functions. The tide-gauge data consist of M2 harmonic constants previously derived at 43 chosen coastal locations. The altimeter data consist of approximately two years of Geosat data in the form of collinear differences of sea-surface heights, corrected for orbit error by adjusting long sequences of global data. The tide is expressed as an expansion in Proudman functions - numerically constructed, orthogonal eigenfunctions of the velocity potential. The most important mode is... |
